About me
Who Am I?
My name is Sean Powers and I have the need to learn everything about the public markets.
At the time of writing this, I am currently a finance student at Springfield College. In the past, I have worked as a summer financial analyst at both Henkel and Stanley Black & Decker. And I also have been an internal operations intern at CliftonLarsenAllen.
But, most of my learning about the public markets I do outside of the classroom and office. As I spend most of my time reading, listening, talking, practicing, and now writing about investing.
Intent Of My Writings
The purpose of this Substack is multifaceted.
Firstly, I have the urge to learn everything I can about the public markets and beyond. The ability to communicate my knowledge in a simple manner, such that a five-year-old could understand is the greatest test of my knowledge. I wish to share my knowledge and in doing so I will deepen my understanding. I will communicate my ideas on investing as well as explore new ideas in an articulate and concise manner to better my understanding.
Secondly, documenting my investing journey will allow me to view the development of my ideas as well as keep score of my investing activities. Keeping a score of past investing activities allows me to learn, implement changes, and improve in the future. This system of keeping score creates a continuous feedback loop of learning and improvement.
And last but not least, I am not a writer. Although I wish to be a decent one. Practicing my writing will allow me the opportunity to hone my skills and find my voice. Publishing my writings will provide a reference point to look back at and see the growth I have made. I wish to look back on my earlier writings and laugh at how bad they are.
What I Ask Of You, The Reader
As the reader, I won’t ask you to like or subscribe, but I will ask you to please engage with my writings in other ways.
Please challenge and criticize my approach to investing. Healthy disagreement plays an important role in learning and growing. Candid feedback provides an opportunity for us to discuss and learn something new from each other. Even if you agree, I urge you to reach out and let me know what ideas we agree on. A commonality between us can give us grounds to share other ideas to discuss and learn from one another. If you agree or disagree with my approach to investing I would appreciate it if you let me know.
Through reading and interacting with me I hope you can learn a thing or two. I am by no means an expert, I am just a kid who loves the public markets and wants to get better at communicating himself through writing.
